PEMF Therapy to Treat Hormonal Imbalances

One of the body’s main systems is the Endocrine System, which is commonly referred to as the ‘Hormone System’. This is found in many living organisms including birds, mammals, and fish. The Endocrine System is comprised of glands in the body which are very small but very powerful, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency. These endocrine or hormonal glands release hormones into the bloodstream and the fluid surrounding cells, where receptors in organs and tissues then recognise and respond to the hormones.

Hormones Are Regulated by Glands in the Endocrine System

There are over 50 hormones in the human body, and they control biological processes in the body, such as the creation of insulin, testosterone, and oestradiol, as well as growth and thyroid hormones

Key Human Hormones

  1. Thyroid hormones — An underactive (i.e. ‘weak’) thyroid can lead to weightloss, fatigue and mild depression among other symptoms, according to the British Thyroid Foundation. Thyroid hormones influence growth, metabolism, reproduction, and development.
  2. Oestrogens are a key hormone for female sexual development.
  3. Testosterone is a male hormone produced in the testicles.
  4. Adrenaline & Cortisol help the body manage stress as well as the ‘Fight, Flight or Freeze’ response

Key Glands in the Endocrine System include:

  • Hypothalamus – Links the Endocrine and Nervous Systems together
  • Adrenal Gland – Regulates stress, blood pressure, glucose metabolism, and water balance
  • Pancreas – Produces Glucagon & Insulin to regulate sugar in the blood
  • Gonads – Regulate reproductive cycles and behaviours

Hormonal Imbalances

However, an issue with the Endocrine System is that it is quite delicate, and hormonal imbalances can happen easily.

Causes of Hormonal Imbalance

Hormonal imbalances can occur due to various reasons such as:

  • Certain drugs, such as birth control
  • Over-Responding to Stimulus (increased growth hormones)
  • Inappropriate Bodily Timings (excessive Insulin production)
  • Over or Underproductive System (especially Thyroids)
  • Chemical Exposure from local environment
  • Sudden shock, trauma or PTSD

These hormonal imbalances can disrupt daily life, as well as create more severe issues.

Consequences of Hormonal Imbalances

Harmful cancers, developmental malformations, interference with reproduction, and disturbances in the immune and nervous systems are just a few serious health problems resulting from hormonal imbalances.

A patient can suffer with many mental health side effects due to endocrine system disorders too, including anxiety and depression. Other symptoms include insomnia, fatigue, myalgia, weight gain/loss, and frequent illness.

Symptoms of Hormonal Imbalance

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms over a longer period of time, please ring your GP or visit your surgery / family doctor. They could indicate an imbalance of improper function within the endocrine system:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Sudden weight loss or gain (without trying to)
  • Anxiety, jumpiness, fright
  • Painful menstruation
  • Irregular menstruation
  • Bleeding during ovulation (light bleeding in between periods)
  • Insomnia

PEMF Therapy to Treat Hormonal Imbalances

Yes! Pulsed Electromagnetic (PEMF) Therapy has been shown to significantly improve symptoms created by disruptions to the Endocrine System.

There are at least a dozen clinical trials we are aware of that have tested and observed the impact of PEMF therapy to treat hormonal imbalances. The devices used in each study might differ, but the principles of the technology remain the same.

In our Centre we use SCIO devices to treat hormonal imbalances. The SCIO we use in clinic is the same as the ones we offer in our Home Hire Programme for patients who have difficulty travelling to our clinic on a regular basis. The device is strapped to a patient’s wrists, ankles and forehead. It uses non-invasive, very low voltage to scan the body for irregularities and ailments. From this scan it pin-points areas of weakness or dysfunction. Therapy is then rendered through the same electrodes to stimulate cells to regenerate, improve cellular function and circulation, calm and relax the nervous system, as well as regulate mineral levels within the body. List of Clinical Trials on PEMF Therapy to Correct Endocrine Disorders

There have been a wide range of studies looking into the different symptoms of a faulty Endocrine System, and the benefits of PEMF in treating them.

  1. One clinical study in Cleveland, Ohio, conducted in 2006, investigated PEMF therapy and the reaction of cells under electromagnetic therapy. By hooking up patients to a PEMF machine for short durations, they were able to observe that bone cells immediately recognise the stimulus provided by the electromagnetic frequencies. This was shown to improve the response rates of cells and indicated that the cell regeneration process was fastened by this PEMF intervention.
  2. PEMF has been shown to help with pain relief by balancing hormones. As endorphins are a hormone that promote feelings of happiness and euphoria, PEMF therapy can promote the creation of these hormones naturally, rather than rely on opiate medication. Paired with relaxation methods such as yoga and meditation, PEMF can relieve pain naturally and non-invasively. Electromagnetic frequencies also target the causes of pain in the body’s cells by decreasing the triggering of pain responses. By tackling the cause of pain at the source, PEMF therapy can balance the Endocrine System into balancing itself out.
  3. Another study discovered that PEMF therapy was beneficial in promoting healthier bone regeneration. Like the first study mentioned, PEMF therapy encouraged cells to respond more actively to healing processes, particularly regarding bone fractures. The study concluded that PEMF was a beneficial therapy that could support ‘bone formation under oxidative stress conditions’. Through the balancing of hormones in the Endocrine System, electromagnetic waves can support the healing processes found within the body.
  4. One study sought to investigate PEMF therapy in treating side effects of Menopause, including hair loss, vaginal dryness and flushing, osteoporosis, dry and wrinkled skin, and sagging of breasts. Oestrogen was shown to sedate these symptoms, but hormonal imbalances make it difficult to do so. The study found out that after PEMF therapy, Oestrogen levels ‘meaningfully increase[ed]’ to a level which benefitted the patients. It also increases essential vitamins throughout the body, mainly Vitamin D which promotes calcium growth. From this, bone density and maintenance were improved also. The study concluded that PEMF therapy was a meaningful therapeutic method in strengthening the Endocrine System and promoting healthier cell regeneration.
  5. A study at Yale saw that PEMF therapy can ‘charge’ cells in order to bring them back to their normal functioning level. This allows the body to produce more healthy cells and balance hormones in the body. This risk can increase the older you get, where the body is more at risk of having failing glands, leading to fatigue, sleep loss, or weight gain.
  6. By regulating hormonal growth, PEMF has been shown to help with various musculoskeletal conditions including tendon growth and repair, osteoarthritis, and fractures. This is again achieved through healthier cell regeneration stimulated by low frequencies. PEMF therapy also increases the growth of osteoblasts, cytokines, prostaglandins, and cell growth factors. It has also been shown to combat oxidative stress from microwave frequencies to promote the growth of testosterone instead.
